Lookout over the Treasury in Petra

Hi! My name is Eric, and I love to travel.  Ever since I first experienced international travel almost a decade ago I have been on a constant search for new, exciting, “off the beaten path” places to explore.

I often find my friends saying “How can you afford to go to all of these places?”, or “It must be nice to be rich”. Well I can assure you, I am not rich by any stretch of the word. Instead, I have spent countless hours learning the ins and outs of frequent flyer programs, finding affordable (and often times amazing) unconventional accommodation options, and devising ways to even cover the costs of local transportation. Over 20 countries and 5 continents  later, I have figured out some of the best techniques for practical, affordable travel. I can honestly say that I have not paid full price for an international flight in years!

In all of the places that I have traveled to, I have experienced moments of clarity. Eating gelato outside the Pantheon in Rome. Finishing an intense 10-hour day on the Inca Trail in Peru en route to Machu Picchu. Watching the sunset from the top of a sand dune in the Sahara Desert. Sharing a drink with my wife on a rooftop bar in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam while the traffic below continues late into the night. Each of these moments are very different, yet each bring with them this heightened sense of awareness that the world world is at once both foreign and familiar, indescribably vast and yet close enough to touch. It is a sensation that is better felt than described, and I want more than anything to help others experience it through travel.

When I am not exploring some new corner of this beautiful world we live in, I am at home in the quaint Columbus, Ohio suburb of Clintonville with my wonderful wife and travel companion Kami and our two dogs, Patience and Alice.  I also work full time as a software engineer, play guitar in a band, and enjoy cooking.
